Week 2 Blog Posts

For week 2, you should choose one of the following prompts for your blog post. Submit the link to your published blog to complete the assignment.

Option 1: Introduce Yourself

Blogging connects you with a public, digital audience. Introduce yourself and tell your audience a little about your interests as they pertain to digital studies. What interests, questions, experiences, hobbies, technologies, media, jobs, or other parts of your life might connect to the field of digital studies? Is there something about digital history, culture, or technology that you are particularly interested in learning more about this semester?

Option 2: Map your Digital Knowledge

Identify one source or artifact that offers some insight into a digital studies topic that interests you. It might be a scholarly book or article, popular press article, social media post or account, podcast ,book, website, digital artifact, video, or something else. Share or link your source or artifact. Introduce it and explain what you think it contributes to conversations about digital studies and why it interests you.

Option 3: What’s in a Digital Keyword?

Benjamin Peters asks us to think critically about the words we use to describe digital technologies and culture. Choose one word you associate with digital life (one of his 25 keywords or otherwise). What does this word seem to mean in everyday digital life? Drawing on Peters’ introduction, what might we learn by slowing down and questioning that seemingly familiar meaning? Consider where the term comes from, who uses it, what assumptions it carries, or how its meaning might have changed alongside digital technologies.
